Referee Daniele Doveri has claimed it was a ‘beautiful feeling’ to be back on the pitch and revealed ‘almost nothing had changed’ during the Coppa Italia Final: “I just had to lower my voice.”
The match official spoke to Il Messaggero about his first match after the long break, as he oversaw the first trophy assignment post-COVID.
“It was a strange but beautiful feeling,” he said. “The return to the pitch is a nice message that sees football as a vehicle to restore normality in the country.
“Almost nothing had changed, even if I had to lower my voice. Without people there, I don’t need to raise it.”
He claimed the referees are focused on concluding the championship and none of them are worried about not having a holiday this year.
“Nobody thinks about it, there’s a great desire to referee and a summer spent on the pitch won’t be too bad.”
