Gigi Di Biagio admits a home defeat to Cagliari in stoppages is a heavy blow for SPAL’s hopes of safety, but ‘we can’t give up now.’

Even a point would’ve been meagre pickings for the penultimate side, but Giovanni Simeone snatched a 92nd-minute goal from close range.

“The situation remains difficult and we really could’ve done without this defeat,” said the coach in his press conference.

Even a point would’ve been meagre pickings for the penultimate side, but Giovanni Simeone snatched a 92nd-minute goal from close range.

“The situation remains difficult and we really could’ve done without this defeat,” said the coach in his press conference.

“We can’t give up now, as there are still 11 rounds to go and some interesting head-to-head clashes. The next few games are if anything easy for me to prepare, because there’s no lack of motivation.

“Our first half wasn’t good today, but we pushed harder after the break and then wasted a massive double scoring opportunity. These things can happen.

“We’ll keep trying to the end, because if we win the direct clashes, then we could get a relaunch.”

SPAL are second from bottom on 18 points from 27 rounds, already eight points off safety.
