D'Aversa: 'Beyond all expectations'

Parma coach Roberto D’Aversa hailed his ‘extraordinary’ players but doesn’t want to start dreaming about a place in Europe: “We must do our best.”

After a hammering 4-1 win against Genoa at the Marassi on Tuesday, Parma sit seventh in the League, three points behind Coppa Italia winners Napoli.

D’Aversa was more than happy with his teams performance and wanted to give them their rightful credit after the final whistle.

“My lads are something extraordinary, beyond all expectations,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “Despite suffering injuries, we have never made any excuses and I want the lads to get the right merit.”

But the expectations around Parma are understandably growing and the fans have started dreaming of a place in Europe, but D’Aversa stressed the need to take one step at a time.

“The fans are free to dream about what they want. I think the club sets the goals and I think there are other clubs who are more structured.

“We must continue to do our best, until we have achieved our main target mathematically. But changing your target leads to changing your view.

“Parma, who were in Serie D four years ago, drew in Turin and it was not a good thing.”
