“It was our first game in three and a half months, we had a strong start to go 2-0 up and had the opportunities to add a third,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.
“It’s disappointing that we allowed the comeback, especially the first and third goals, which were entirely avoidable. A team like ours cannot concede goals like that.
“This is a very important match, we lost, so there are regrets. I asked the team to take the right approach from the start and I cannot complain about that. If we’d scored a third, the match would’ve gone differently.
“We already had some injuries, Luis Alberto couldn’t play more than 70 minutes, Danilo Cataldi and Tucu Correa asked to come off. We didn’t have the options on the bench to rotate towards the end and take some of the heat off.”
Lazio are now four points adrift of Serie A leaders Juventus, but there are still plenty of points up for grabs, including a head-to-head.
“We were unbeaten in 21 rounds, we knew coming back to face Atalanta was the worst possible fixture, but we didn’t do enough to get the points.
“I don’t like losing and neither do the lads. I saw they were upset. We’ve got to recoup our energy, there are games every three days and we’re unlucky in that sense, but there’s nothing we can do about the fixture list.”
