Claudio Ranieri thought Sampdoria had done enough to get a result away to Roma, but ‘it took a great champion like Edin Dzeko to make the difference.’
Manolo Gabbiadini had put Samp in front when pouncing on an Amadou Diawara error, but Dzeko scored with two second-half volleys to turn it around.
“It was such a long, high ball from Bryan Cristante at the end, with a striker like Dzeko, we should’ve been a little more alert on that,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.
“We had so many chances and should’ve been more precise, but at least it was significantly better than the performance a few days ago against Inter. The team is in good shape, it runs hard, we just need to be a little bit more determined.
“The first Roma goal was excellent, Lorenzo Pellegrini put a great pass in and it was a stunning finish, but the second goal was much more predictable and could’ve been cut out.
“I just feel bad for the lads, because we thought we’d done enough to pick up a point. It took a great champion like Dzeko to make the difference.”
