A 3-2 defeat to Atalanta increased the gap to the Bianconeri in the Scudetto battle and the Italy international admitted they were not at the required standard in their first match after the resumption.

“The approach was positive but unfortunately we didn’t do enough,” Acerbi told Lazio Style Channel. “We needed to keep up the attention.

“Atalanta are strong and fit; however, we can’t concede three goals in a comeback.”

The centre-back has claimed Lazio will rise again and keep their eyes on the target.

“We won’t get downbeat; we know we must fight until the end. This defeat certainly doesn’t hold us down. We must improve the mistakes we made.

“Now, we work for and think about Fiorentina, that’s a more important game than this.”

Lazio had been on an unbeaten run of 21 games in Serie A ahead of the interruption and Acerbi confessed it was tough to resume after three months.

“The long break was obviously not easy, above all to find our rhythm again without having played friendly matches.

“In the end, we put our hearts into it, always tried to remain united. We don’t have time to dwell, we have to immediately think about the next one.”
