Antonio Conte's assistant manager Cristian Stellini insists Inter ‘thoroughly deserved’ the late 2-1 comeback win over Parma. ‘People should give credit where it’s due.’

Gervinho had given Parma the lead and the Ducali wasted at least three big opportunities to double their advantage, but Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni turned it around with headers in the final minutes.

“I thought it was a more than deserved victory. Thoroughly deserved,” Stellini told Sky Sport Italia.

Conte was in the stands due to a touchline ban, so long-term collaborator Stellini took charge on the bench and in post-match interviews.

“We knew Parma were very dangerous on the counter-attack, as they always are, but we kept the initiative, continued to push and in the end got the deserved three points.

“We’ve analysed why we conceded the goals with Sassuolo and will analyse this goal tomorrow. It’s not easy to change two defenders of the back three and it was their first game in three or four months, so that’s not easy when up against Gervinho.

“If we also look at the statistics, in the previous matches, we allowed eight shots on goal and conceded five goals. That is not a normal statistic. We are pleased with the performance and those who came off the bench made the difference, which is crucial in this fixture list.”

The Nerazzurri only seemed to spark into life after the substitutions, particularly introducing Alexis Sanchez for Christian Eriksen.

“We created so many chances over the last three games and we have to make more of them. If we had finished them better, we wouldn’t be talking about a team that is struggling.

“We changed tactics, brought in the trequartista role for Christian Eriksen, as we are seeking different options and aiming to be more unpredictable when going forward.

“Nobody expects us to have the right balance from the start working with these new systems. It wasn’t easy, we did well and thoroughly deserved the victory.

“We take the criticism, but should also take credit where it’s due and this win was deserved.”
