They achieved it with a record 77 points, with seven rounds to go, a massive 24 points ahead of the chasing pack.

“I think what we did tonight really was the right image, as we were down to 10 men for almost the whole game,” Inzaghi told DAZN.

“These lads achieved something historic, as there was a record of 77 points and we matched it. We won every single home game, I really don’t know what else to say.”

Throughout the season, Benevento won 23 games, drew seven and lost only one, scoring 56 goals and conceding 15.

“I am happy for the President and the director, as they believed in me. We had the best defensive record in Europe and the lads have been fabulous. They went above and beyond, as did my staff. I never expected to make history.”

Pippo will be up against his brother in Serie A next season, as Simone is the coach of Lazio.
