Liverani has not given up just yet but said the mistakes that led to Gaston Ramirez’ two goals from the penalty spot were ‘very avoidable’.

“Salvation is very possible, but we have to start quickly. We are paying dearly for these mistakes,” Liverani told Tuttomercatoweb. “Today we lost a game because of two very avoidable mistakes, due to our lack of attention and composure.

“For this, I’m sorry. If you lose against Milan and Juventus, you can digest it, but not this.”

The Giallorossi coach has not lost his faith in the players but conceded that Lecce need to start scoring to stay up.

“It’s tough for everyone and these guys have shown me their worth. We are still one point away from safety. But we must start scoring.”
