Luciano Spalletti is being linked with the Fiorentina job for next season, as Beppe Iachini is struggling to keep them out of the relegation zone.
The Viola are only six points clear of the bottom three following Wednesday’s home defeat to Sassuolo.
Iachini was already brought in to replace sacked Vincenzo Montella on December 23, but after four wins, five draws and four defeats, few realistically expect him to remain beyond this season.
According to La Repubblica, Spalletti is the man who has been targeted by President Rocco Commisso to lead the new project.
It would be a return home for the 61-year-old, who is from the Florence area and a lifelong Viola fan.
He is currently out of work after his dismissal from Inter, despite taking them to Champions League qualification.
Spalletti has plenty of international experience at Roma (twice), Zenit St Petersburg and Inter.
