Coach Roberto D’Aversa has slammed Parma’s ‘unacceptable’ first-half performance against Fiorentina. ‘It’s a question of motivation’.

The Gialloblu suffered their third consecutive defeat in Serie A and sit 12th in the League after 30 rounds of fixtures.

D’Aversa was not happy with what he saw in the first half at the Ennio Tardini on Sunday and claimed the 2-1 defeat was down to their performance in the first half.

“I must say it’s unacceptable how we approached the first period of the match,” D’Aversa said at a press conference. “The percentage of duels won by Fiorentina speaks volumes.

“It’s clear that when you go 2-0 down, it will be difficult to get back. In the second half we had a reaction, the desire to bring home a result. But we didn’t succeed.

“We did too little in the first half to get something from this game.”

D’Aversa claimed he saw a different Parma against Fiorentina, one that don’t represent their journey in Serie A before the break.

“It might be OK to lose, as we did against Inter and Verona, where an episode or the opponent’s effort affects the game, but we can’t come off the pitch and regret not giving our all.

“And I must say that in the first half, I didn’t see the attitude that has characterised our season so far, even in the past.”

Now, Parma prepare to face Roma on Wednesday and the Ducali coach is eager to bounce back immediately.

“We come from three defeats, but the table is tight. If we think about the last three games, where we could have been and where we are, it must make us understand that we need to resume our path.

“We started with two games and four points, in the next three we got none. This is a mini tournament, bringing home the points can make a difference in the final standings.

“I believe that each of us must have the will and ambition to give our best.

“It’s a question of motivation, we must have the ambition to do what we have up to now.”
