Sinisa Mihajlovic has claimed his Bologna ‘can beat anyone’ after their 2-1 win against Inter but conceded the Rossoblu were ‘lucky’ to leave Milan with three points on Sunday.

Inter grabbed the lead before the Rossoblu came back in the second half of an eventful night at the Giuseppe Meazza, as both teams finished the match with 10 men.

“I must say that we were poor during the first 20 to 25 minutes, we couldn’t string two passes together,” Mihajlovic told DAZN. “Luckily, we had a break at 1-0 and could speak to each other.

“We encouraged and gave certainty to the lads again. We had nothing left to lose when we came out. It was not easy to be 10 men and 1-0 down.

“This was a victory of character and conviction. In the end, we deserved the win.”

The young substitute Musa Jurawa scored the equaliser and Mihajlovic admitted he was his only option.

“I had to rest [Riccardo] Orsolini and [Takehiro] Tomiyasu, but I didn’t have any changes because [Andreas] Skov Olsen and [Ibrahima] Mbaye were hurt. I only had him.

“The first idea was to put [Mattias] Svanberg at right, then watching the game, I told myself: ‘Let’s put Musa. The mess he makes on the pitch won’t make them understand anything.’

“I also told [coach Riccardo] Bigon he would score. After three minutes, he did. He deserved it, he played at San Siro, it means having a personality.

“It’s just luck. Like [Silvio] Berlusconi said: ‘When you win, you’re a good boy, but when you lose, you are an idiot…’

“We tried to do logical things, giving the lads confidence. In the end, they made up for the bad start.”

Roberto Soriano was sent off for dissent and Mihajlovic admitted his player had made a mistake.

“The empty stadium obviously influenced the situation. We have to understand the referees, who now hear everything.

“Roberto made a mistake, but with the fans there, the referee wouldn’t have heard him. He should have been smarter.

“If you don’t play in a big team, they will punish you immediately.”

The win means Mihajlovic’s men sit ninth in Serie A and are still in with a chance of qualifying for the Europa League next season.

“It gives us hope to still fight for a place in Europe, even if the teams ahead keep winning. This shows my boys can win against anyone.

“Before starting, they had the faces of a team who had already lost. Fortunately we only conceded one goal.”
