Lazio defender Patric has been banned for four games for biting Lecce’s Giulio Donati yesterday.
The Disciplinary Commission this afternoon gave its verdict on Patric’s moment of madness.
The former Barcelona stopper bit Donati’s arm in the 2-1 defeat to Lecce, resulting in a late red card, although his opponent has already forgiven him.
“He did nothing to me and apologised straight after, so bear that in mind,” he told ANSA after the match.
“I also live with emotions so I understand Patric why, in such a hard-fought game, did what he did.
“Patric apologised straight after. His gesture was rightfully punished with a red, but it didn’t do me any harm.
“Therefore, I’d ask people to think long and hard before judging him. The Lazio player made things right, unlike Bonazzoli who didn’t even apologise [for his kick]. That saddens me.”
As well as being fined €10,000, he will miss Lazio’s upcoming Serie A matches against Sassuolo, Udinese and Cagliari, plus the potential title decider with Juventus.
In stark contrast, Luis Suarez was given a 10-match Premier League ban and a four-month global suspension for respectively biting Branislav Ivanovic and Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini.
Today, the English FA also banned Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier for four games after an altercation with a fan earlier in the season.
