CONI President Giovanni Malago claims the low TV ratings in Italy are due to the lack of people in the stands and hopes to see fans in the stadium before the season is over.
Serie A has been carried out behind closed doors since the resumption and Malago thinks it has affected the viewer numbers.
He spoke at the Educamp presentation and his words were picked up by TMW: “For months they have thought us to respect the indications of the Technical and Scientific Commission (CTS).
“From the outside, every now and then I see things that are difficult to understand. However, if everyone has their say on this one, it will never end.
“The hope is to bring people back into the stadiums as soon as possible, in compliance with the evolution of the contagions.”
“The data tells us that we have gone from 6m viewers to 3.5m. There are still seven games left, I don’t know what will happen.
“If you make a survey, I think Italians are less passionate for this type of football, but at the same time, I think it’s the far better solution than those on the table.
“Virtue had to be made out of necessity.”
