The Nerazzurri need a win to avoid losing third place to Atalanta, who have already surged past them with a 2-0 victory against Sampdoria last night.

They also badly require a boost, as Antonio Conte was furious after their shock 2-1 home defeat to 10-man Bologna.

Lautaro Martinez saw another penalty saved and has looked increasingly out of sorts lately, so he is rested in favour of Alexis Sanchez alongside Romelu Lukaku.

Christian Eriksen is also benched, with Borja Valero taking the trequartista role, as Conte tries to make the 3-4-1-2 formation work.

Alessandro Bastoni and Danilo D’Ambrosio are suspended, so Diego Godin has to come into the defence, along with Milan Skriniar after his three-match ban.

Nicolò Barella, Stefano Sensi and Victor Moses are still out of action in midfield.

Verona haven’t maintained the same momentum they had before the lockdown, losing 2-0 to Brescia last time out.

Sofyan Amrabat was sorely missed in midfield, but he returns to the starting XI, as does Matteo Pessina following his ban, in a more advanced role with the pacey Darko Lazovic.

Mattia Zaccagni, Fabio Borini and Giampaolo Pazzini are on the treatment table.

Hellas haven’t beaten Inter in Serie A since 1992, managing only three draws in the last 17 meetings.

Verona: Silvestri; Rrahmani, Gunter, Kumbulla; Faraoni, Amrabat, Veloso, Dimarco; Lazovic, Pessina; Stepinski

Inter: Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Godin; Candreva, Gagliardini, Brozovic, Young; Borja Valero; Alexis Sanchez, R Lukaku
