A decisive Miguel Veloso was quick to praise Hellas Verona’s team effort as they held Inter to 2-2 on Thursday night. ‘It’s a victory of the group’.

The Portuguese midfielder scored with a neat finish from the edge of the area to help Verona grab a point at home against the Nerazzurri, who squandered their comeback at the Bentegodi.

“It’s a victory of the group, of sacrifice, because the way we play requires a lot of physical effort. We gave even more during tough circumstances against a great team, so that’s why the celebrations were even more intense,” Veloso told Sky Sport Italia.

“Inter have a great coach who has only just arrived in his first season, many new players, so I am sure they’ll do well in future. I realise there isn’t much time given to anyone in Italy, but they seemed well-organised to me.

“My job is to help my teammates, as none of us can win by ourselves. I try to give my best contribution and I was fortunate to get the equaliser this evening, but we all earned this result.”

Verona now have 43 points, on a par with Sassuolo, and are still in the race for a Europa League spot.

“Our big objective was to secure safety. Now our aim is to pick up as many points as possible, then we’ll see where we are at the end of the day. We started the season better than anyone expected, so now we want to end it on a high too.”
