Patron Aurelio De Laurentiis has praised Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso’s personality and claimed the Partenopei are currently ‘recovering from the incident’ under Carlo Ancelotti earlier this term.
During the press conference regarding the new pre-season retreat in Castel di Sangro, the Azzurri President pointed out that his side are currently recovering from an unfortunate incident at the start of the season.
Napoli sit sixth in Serie A and currently trail fifth-placed Roma by two points, but the patron aims to be back among the European elite as soon as possible.
“Napoli have been a European machine for 11 years, then this year we had an incident that we had to recover from, which we are doing,” De Laurentiis told at a press conference.
“At Ancelotti’s 60th birthday, I had the chance to talk to Gattuso for three hours and I was impressed, because the world of footballers usually doesn’t have many topics to discuss.
“But with him, you can talk about anything. And he’s not a restless man, but a satisfied one. Both personally and economically.
“They don’t need to earn to live, so there’s no obsession to chase who knows what. Him and his wife are serene people who carry out their profession for love.”
On August 8, Napoli face Barcelona in the last 16 of the Champions League, having held the Blaugrana to a 1-1 draw at the San Paolo.
