Atalanta forward Alejandro Gomez has been named Serie A’s Player of the Month for June.
Despite not scoring, Gomez managed four assists in Atalanta’s wins against Sassuolo, Lazio and Udinese last month to help his side leapfrog Inter into third place.
“Atalanta are one of the most beautiful tales in our league and no-one represents the values of this team better than captain Gomez for his quality and quantity, team spirit and self-sacrifice for his teammates,” said Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo.
“Papu’s having an extraordinary season, illuminating our league with his class and acting as the driving force for his teammates on the pitch with goals and assists.”
The 32-year-old has a total of seven goals and 18 assists in 40 appearances for the Dea this season.
He will be presented the award of MVP for June during Atalanta’s visit of Brescia tomorrow.
