Cagliari coach Walter Zenga has confirmed that Radja Nainggolan will miss tomorrow’s match against his former club Sampdoria at the Marassi.

Daniele Ragatzu had to replace the Inter loanee after only 30 minutes of the 0-0 draw with Lecce on Sunday and Nainggolan has not recovered in time for the Blucerchiati match this Wednesday.

The 32-year-old had struggled with a calf problem prior to the match against the Giallorossi but Zenga couldn’t confirm the extent of the injury, fearing a long period out for the former Roma star.

The 32-year-old had struggled with a calf problem prior to the match against the Giallorossi but Zenga couldn’t confirm the extent of the injury, fearing a long period out for the former Roma star.

“I know for sure that he won’t be there tomorrow, but I haven’t received a medical report yet,” Zenga said at a press conference. “I can’t give any update on the recovery schedule.”

The Rossoblu tactician has a history with Samp and must put his past to the side when the Casteddu fight for the points against a rival in the bottom half of Serie A.

“The past doesn’t interest me. There are no regrets and I don’t have to prove anything to anyone,” he said. “I was lucky enough to play for and coach Samp and that’s a unique sensation.

“But today, my focus is only on Cagliari. We face a team that have won their last three games, they are doing very well, and they are nicely toned.

“We have to play as Cagliari and play until the 90th minute, paying attention to the moments when we are struggling and where we should be more careful on the ball, avoiding being counterattacked.”
