Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has declared his club’s best players are not for sale and that ‘I’d offer Giorgio Chiellini a three-year contract – and my desk!’

Jeremie Boga and Manuel Locatelli have been heavily linked with moves away for next season, but Carnevali confirmed they – along with top goalscorer Francesco Caputo and captain Domenico Berardi – would be staying put.

“Caputo, Boga, Berardi and Locatelli won’t be sold,” he told Tuttosport.

“We’ve received lots of offers for them, but we’ve rejected all of them.

“We won’t give up our best players because we have an ambitious project with De Zerbi, with Berardi being the leader of this team.

“We’re not setting ourselves any limits and our model is the Atalanta one. Squinzi always asked me: ‘When will we buy Messi?’

“I said to him: ‘Don’t worry, Dr. We’ll face him sooner or later.”

The chief executive was then asked which player belonging to Juventus – Sassuolo’s next opponents – would best suit his club.

“Chiellini. Thanks in part to our Demiral, Juve’s defence for the future is in safe hands.

“Having said that, Giorgio is a champion and would help all our young players grow quickly.

“I’d be willing to offer him a three-year contract – and my desk as CEO, if necessary!”

Caputo turns 33 next month yet has scored 16 Serie A goals this season, so what’s his secret?

“More than fearing Ronaldo’s goals, as many as he has scored against us, I’m banking on Caputo.

“He’s been putting in some great performances and he’s also been phenomenal in terms of assists.

“He isn’t too old for us at all. He has the spirit of a 20-year-old. He’s also helping our young players grow.

“Many clubs would be looking at him, even now.”
