Verona’s 2-1 defeat to Roma saw them fell nine points behind the top six in Serie A with only five rounds of fixtures remaining, and Juric accepts a place in the Europa League next season ‘isn’t for us’.

“I know how much the lads are putting into these performances,” he said after the game.

“They’re pushing as hard as they can, in part because we’re not able to rotate too much.

“Europe isn’t for us. The lads have had a splendid season and gone beyond their means.

“We said to ourselves that we had to always give our best and the players are respecting this pact.

“We’re playing again in 60 hours and it’s truly a huge effort.”

The coach’s contract expires at the end of the season, so will he sign an extension?

“I haven’t made a decision yet. We’re still talking.”
