Palermo will now go by the name of ‘Palermo Football Club’ and are looking for a new coach, despite their promotion to Serie C.
Palermo were refounded last summer as ‘SSD Palermo’, scrapping their previous denomination of US Citta di Palermo.
To coincide with their return to league football, it was decided at a shareholders’ meeting earlier today that the club’s full name would be changed to ‘Palermo Football Club’.
However, their first season as Palermo Football Club will be without coach Rosario Pergolizzi after they chose to dispense with him.
Pergolizzi - Rosanero through and through - steered the team to the top of Serie D Group I, seven points clear of second-placed Savoia, before the coronavirus pandemic ended 2019-20 early.
It is thought Palermo’s board would like a bigger name to oversee their climb up the divisions, with outgoing Juventus Under-23 boss Fabio Pecchia already linked.
