Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt may need an intervention to solve the shoulder problems bothering him since November.

The Bianconeri sweat over Matthijs de Ligt’s fitness, as the shoulder continued to give the Dutch defender problems during the 3-3 draw with Sassuolo.

The Corriere di Torino claims the problem has been bothering the young defender for a while and he may require an operation.

An intervention could be necessary to resolve the problem once and for all and the 21-year-old could therefore be out until the start of next season.

The club and the player must take a decision, with the final games and Juventus still involved in the Champions League.

The issue started towards the end of last year, when he dislocated his shoulder against Atalanta, and he has struggled since.

De Ligt has played 35 times across all competitions this term, including five in the Champions League, helping the Old Lady to the last 16 of the competition.

Juventus will have Olympique Lyonnais in mind when deciding if De Ligt should operate before the season is over, fearing that he will not recover in time for the all-important tie against the Ligue 1 side.
