Lazio spokesperson Arturo Diaconale ‘totally agrees things would have gone differently’ for his club without the coronavirus pandemic.

Lazio were just a point off Juventus at the top of Serie A before the COVID-19 crisis, but they are now eight adrift of the Bianconeri after three defeats in four games.

The two sides face off on Monday and Tuttojuve.com asked Diaconale if ‘things would have gone differently’ without the pandemic.

“I totally agree,” he replied.

“The pandemic derailed Lazio from the clear path they were taking in the league. Juventus have great champions who can resolve any situation. They always manage it, even when they don’t play well.

“That’s the great advantage they have over rival teams. When they’re in form, they’re unplayable, but none of their opponents start a game already beaten.

“In terms of game plan, Lazio have the opportunity to repeat the beautiful things they’ve done this season.”

Diaconale was then asked why the Aquile’s form had tailed off so badly since the restart.

“I have no explanation for it. At least from the outside, it’s difficult to give an objective assessment of the situation.

“The important thing is that they’re able to react against Juventus.”

Lazio won 1-0 in Turin at a similar stage of their Scudetto-winning 1999-00 season…

“That would be a resounding result. As a fan, I’d settle for a nice draw at this stage.”
