Nicolo Zaniolo has been drafted into Roma’s squad to face SPAL tomorrow after Cengiz Under pulled out.

Zaniolo was initially left out of the travelling party to Ferrara, with Paulo Fonseca claiming the midfielder was nursing a calf injury.

However, the coach has now relented after Cengiz picked up a thigh strain and the starlet ‘gave more encouraging answers’.

“Earlier I said Zaniolo would not be available,” the Giallorossi tweeted Fonseca as saying.

“However, Cengiz picked up a knock today – so I asked Nicolò if he felt ready. He underwent tests that gave us more encouraging answers than yesterday, so I’ve decided to call him up.”

Some had attributed his exclusion to a possible bust-up with the Portuguese, who accused him of not helping the team against Verona last week.
