Pioli signed a two-year contract with Milan earlier this week after the plug was pulled on Ralf Rangnick, and Gazidis revealed the coach would play a ‘key role’ in the club’s plans for the future.

“Our primary objectives have never changed,” he told the club’s official website.

“We considered various options over these months in order to choose the person who could best channel our vision, that of a successful Milan, a young and ambitious team strengthened by some experienced players, to give our fans a more attacking style of football, fast-paced, attractive and intense.

“Stefano is already applying this vision and has proven to be the right man for the job.

“Surely, Stefano will play a key role in our team who deal with transfer market decisions., together with the senior management of the club.

“Personally speaking, I strongly believe in teamwork and I’m happy that this job has begun to bear fruit. We’ll keep it up.”

Some Rossoneri fans are still not convinced by Elliott’s intentions, but the former Arsenal chief made it clear the hedge fund was ‘determined to make the club grow’.

“The pandemic has been an unprecedented challenge for us. As a club, we have committed ourselves to acts of solidarity, trying to give our fans and their families something concrete.

“We always considered how to be ready for the restart of the league and not just concerning the sporting aspect.

“We are fortunate to have a solid ownership behind us, one that is determined to make the club grow.

“It’s not easy because football is not the same without the fans in the stands, and this goes for Milan who have passionate and loyal supporters.

“We need their support, now more than ever. These are difficult times and we all need to back the club.

“There’s no success without unity and teamwork. I strongly believe in this.”
