Ivan Gazidis hopes Paolo Maldini and Gianluigi Donnarumma ‘stay for a long time’ and states Milan will make a decision on Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘quickly’.
Ibrahimovic’s contract expires at the end of the season and the striker has been critical of Gazidis recently, although that was before coach Stefano Pioli was given a new contract.
“I’d rather not talk about an individual player because there are different situations like his,” the Milan CEO told Corriere dello Sport.
“We don’t have much time between this and next season, so it’ll be necessary to think and make a decision quickly.
“However, some decisions are made between two parties. It’s not a case of Gazidis against someone or someone else.
“I don’t call the shots, a group of us do and they’re always made with the club’s best interests at heart.”
The ex-Arsenal man then confirmed he was seeking Maldini to stay on, presumably as technical director.
He also went on to say ‘there’s no-one else like’ Gianluigi Donnarumma after the goalkeeper reached 200 appearances for the Rossoneri aged just 21.
“Paolo has two more years left on his contract and I hope he stays with us for even longer than that.
“We need to build the squad with the right mix of talented young players and experienced heads.
“There’s no-one else in the world like Gigio, who has made 200 club appearances at his age.
“In terms of heart and feeling, he represents the perfect synthesis of the players we want at the club: he’s young but already experienced, he’s talented and he loves Milan.
“We’ll have to deal with the laws of the transfer market, but we know how strong his bond with the club is and we hope to stay together for a long time.”
