“Roma are a very strong side, because they have rediscovered their identity lately and put in some excellent performances,” the coach told the club website.

“Paulo Fonseca changed system to three at the back and brought balance, so Fiorentina must play with the right mentality and grit to bring home a result.

“Fonseca is a fine coach, very well-prepared and tactically versatile, so he is not fossilised on one system. He changed to three at the back in order to make the most of the characteristics that his players have.”

Fiorentina have also switched between three and four at the back during Iachini’s reign.

“We worked from the start on organisation in defence and since the lockdown we’ve had the best defensive record in the league. I wish to point out that after our draw with Inter, people talked about their dangerous scoring opportunities, but Romelu Lukaku was offside when he hit the post and there were another four situations that were offside, but the next day the papers said Inter were dangerous. If they had gone in the net, they would’ve been disallowed.

“That shows how well the team has been working, because concentration and organisation are key if we want to climb the table. It’s also important for us to be more clinical upfront, because we don’t make enough of our scoring opportunities.

“It’s natural when we have so many young players that some experience and cool heads are lacking in the final ball, but we can get more decisive.”

Goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano performed heroics against Inter and he’ll be wearing the gloves again, as Bartlomiej Dragowski is still out injured.

Fiorentina squad for Roma: Agudelo, Badelj, Brancolini, Caceres, Ceccherini, Chiesa, Chiorra, Cutrone, Dalbert, Duncan, Ghezzal, Kouame, Igor, Lirola, Milenkovic, Pezzella, Pulgar, Ribery, Sottil, Terracciano, Terzic, Venuti, Vlahovic
