The intermediary who worked on Victor Osimhen’s transfer to Napoli confirms ‘many other clubs wanted him,’ but the Lille striker ‘strongly wanted to join.’
It was finally announced this afternoon, at a cost of a reported €50m cash, €10m in bonuses plus Orestis Karnezis and three youth team players, after weeks of negotiations with Lille.
“We are happy and satisfied, because Napoli can count on an excellent player who very strongly wanted to join the Azzurri,” agent Andrea D’Amico told Radio Marte.
D’Amico is a collaborator of William D’Avila, the agent who took over working with Osimhen when the striker fired his previous representative midway through the negotiations.
“As the President said, there was a mountain of contracts to get through and things needed to be resolved in every detail. Let’s just say it is both an economically and professionally important move.
“Osimhen is a big investment for Napoli. He is 21 years old and can reveal himself to be an extraordinary investment for the present and future, as Edinson Cavani was.
“I’ve always felt confident the deal would go through. It was a complex operation, but we were always positive about it.”
There had been reports of Premier League interest, particularly from Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United.
“There were many clubs who wanted him, but it would not be fair to name them. Napoli moved much quicker than anyone else, they really did get there first and worked well behind the scenes.
“Napoli are sending out an important signal, especially after a disastrous year for the world of football due to the coronavirus. That shows how much Napoli wanted the player. I think he’s destined to do well from his first season.”
