“I can confirm that Calafiori and Fuzato will play tomorrow, as it’s a good opportunity to see them on the field,” said the coach in his press conference.

“We all have total faith in Pau Lopez, there’s no problem there, we just want to give Fuzato a chance.”

Fuzato is a 23-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper who arrived from Palmeiras in 2018 and recently extended his contract to June 2023.

As for Calafiori, he is an 18-year-old left-back and a product of the Roma youth academy, but already caught the eye of several clubs including Juventus, Fiorentina and PSG.

The squad rotation is because the Europa League Round of 16 with Sevilla is coming up, but Jordan Veretout is suspended for that clash.

“I am thinking of the best solution to replace him. Bryan Cristante and Lorenzo Pellegrini are the favourites to play there against Sevilla. I am not really thinking of Gianluca Mancini in that midfield role, so it’ll be one of those two.

“It has been a difficult season and I am never satisfied, but the team has improved a lot. I think that we can be more consistent in future. Juve and Sevilla are important tests to maintain our recent form, show ambition and team spirit.”
