Atalanta might be on the verge of some more great business, as they can bring Matteo Pessina back from his Hellas Verona loan for just €0.5m.

The attacking midfielder came up through the Monza and then Milan youth academies, eventually sold to Atalanta for €1.65m in the summer of 2017.

He has flourished since the loan to Verona last summer, scoring seven goals in 34 Serie A games this season.

As part of that deal, Hellas have the option to buy for €4.5m, but Atalanta also kept a counter-option worth €5m, meaning effectively he can return to base for just €500,000.

According to Tuttosport, rather than simply sell him on at a huge profit, the idea might be to keep Pessina with Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad for next season.

He has been linked with Milan, Roma and Valencia, among others.
