Garcia: 'Lyon confident against Juventus'

Lyon coach Rudi Garcia maintains holding out against PSG is the ideal preparation for Juventus and the Champions League. ‘That has to give us confidence.’

Their first competitive match since the lockdown in March was last night’s 0-0 Coupe de la Ligue draw with Paris Saint-Germain, eventually losing on penalties.

That means they haven’t qualified for Europe next season and the focus will all be on keeping that 1-0 first leg result safe in the Champions League Round of 16 with Juve.

“Only losing to PSG on penalties suggests we put in a good performance,” said Garcia in his press conference.

“We could’ve done better, but they only made the difference in a technical exercise, and even then the shoot-out went to sudden death.

“In the Champions League, it will be important to do better in attack, but it’s a good foundation to build on ahead of the Juventus match. Now we need to do psychological work with the players to make them understand we leave this Final with our heads held high, taking the positives and using those to reach the Champions League quarter-final.

“I saw the right attitude against PSG and we were well-organised against a team that was constructed to win the Champions League. That has to give us confidence going into the Juve game.”

Goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu did not take part in the PSG game, as he had a knock to the back in training.
