However, Rangnick also formally left his role as head of scouting and football at Red Bull on Friday, just weeks after signing a new deal.

Calciomercato.com claim the reason for both these decisions is the same: the German wants a club where he can have total control over transfer strategy and tactics.

The only side where he believes that he can get that kind of power is in the Premier League, where Sir Alex Ferguson set the mould at Manchester United.

It is unheard-of in Italy for the director of sport and coach to essentially be the same person, whereas in England there is more of an opening.
