Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin insists they fully deserve to stay in Serie A. ‘We won all the head-to-head games and earned 28 points with’ coach Davide Nicola.

The Grifone found themselves needing a win in the final round and got it, beating Hellas Verona 3-0, while Lecce also lost 4-3 at home to Parma anyway.

“We’ve been working towards this for seven months and we deserve it, because we won all the head-to-head games,” Perin told DAZN.

“We’ve been working towards this for seven months and we deserve it, because we won all the head-to-head games,” Perin told DAZN.

“The statistics are clear, we earned 28 points since the coach arrived. Genoa is a glorious club and it’s above all those you don’t see who really make the difference here.

“I am reading a book at the moment that maintains there are two teams, one on the field and the other off it. If both of those teams don’t follow the same path, they won’t achieve their targets.”

Perin had other options for his loan from Juventus in January, but wanted to come ‘home’ and help Genoa.

“The President called me, along with Goran Pandev and Mimmo Criscito. We wanted to help and achieved our aim. Now we are relishing this result.

“I returned after not playing for nine months. Genoa needed me, but I needed Genoa too. I am owned by Juventus, it’s not entirely up to me. My objective is to play consistently, seeing as I’m finally getting back in shape.”
