Getafe coach Jose Bordalas has claimed Inter coach Antonio Conte ‘must have had his reasons’ ahead of their clash in the last 16 of the Europa League tonight.
The Nerazzurri coach spoke about a ‘tough year’ at San Siro and claimed he and his players ‘received very little protection from the cub’ after a 2-0 win against Atalanta on the last day of Serie A 2019-20.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke about a ‘tough year’ at San Siro and claimed he and his players ‘received very little protection from the cub’ after a 2-0 win against Atalanta on the last day of Serie A 2019-20.
It has since sparked speculation regarding his position at the club and Bordalas admitted he has ‘followed’ the situation.
“Inter have a great coach called Antonio Conte. Of course, we followed what happened, but it’s not for me to talk about it,” Bordalas told Tuttosport. “If he said what he said, he must have had his reasons.”
However, Bordalas doesn’t think the recent controversy at Inter will impact their performance tonight.
“Absolutely not, it will not distract anyone. They’re professionals and I’m convinced they will play at a very high level.”
The Getafe coach revealed he would love to coach in Serie A one day and said his team have benefitted from a period of rest since the conclusion of La Liga.
“It would be incredible to train there one day. I have a special bond with the Italian championship, it’s a great competition,” Bordalas revealed, before talking about his own squad.
“Our squad is very short and on June 30 we lost four important players because their contracts expired.
“We suffered from this in the League and for this reason the rest did us well. Having said that, Inter have depth in their squad and it will be very difficult.
“Ours is a modest club with the 15th highest budget in La Liga. It’s not normal to fight for Europe and even less against a team like Inter, where one of their players is worth as much as all of Getafe.
“Inter are a great squad with excellent players in every joint. We will have to play an impeccable and perfect match and even then we could lose.
“We would have liked to play 180 minutes, but I don’t consider it a disadvantage. Playing against Inter is always difficult because they have very few weaknesses. I’m convinced, however, that we can compete.”
