Silvio Berlusconi’s Monza have celebrated their promotion to Serie B by signing Croatia international Mirko Maric from NK Osijek.
The 25-year-old was flown over from Croatia by Berlusconi’s private jet this morning.
He scored 22 goals in 40 competitive games for NK Osijek this season and has two senior caps under his belt for Croatia, as well as some appearances for Bosnia-Herzegovina, as he holds a double passport.
Sky Sport Italia report the deal was worth €4.5m plus performance-related bonuses, a huge figure for a Serie B club.
Monza were promoted from Serie C this summer, as part of Berlusconi’s project to get back into the big time in Italian football.
Berlusconi was President of Milan for over 30 years, making them the club with the most international trophies in the world.
