Mauricio Pochettino, who has also been linked to the Roma job, has reportedly met with Barcelona President Josip Bartomeu to replace Quique Setien.
The change of coach seems inevitable after an historic 8-2 Champions League quarter-final defeat to Bayern Munich last night.
According to Catalunya Radio, Pochettino has already been contacted with a view of taking over the Blaugrana bench.
The report even goes so far as to suggest Pochettino was interviewed before the Champions League Final Eight tournament, because even if he had progressed, Setien’s position was tenuous.
RAC 1 maintain Lionel Messi had already pushed for Pochettino in January, when Setien was chosen to replace Ernesto Valverde.
This is the first time in 12 years that Barcelona have failed to win a single piece of silverware throughout the season.
