Free agent Edinson Cavani is back on the market after negotiations with Benfica collapsed due to his wage demands.
The former Palermo, Napoli and PSG striker is out of contract and has been linked with numerous Italian sides, including Roma, Lazio and Fiorentina.
He had seemingly made up his mind with a move to Portugal and Benfica.
However, A Bola explains the negotiations have been abandoned after the club baulked at his salary demands.
Cavani wanted a three-year contract worth €10m per season net, which was simply beyond Benfica’s capabilities, especially for a 33-year-old.
His most likely destination is now Atletico Madrid, who had already been in advanced talks with the Uruguay international’s entourage a few weeks ago.
