The newspaper reports technical director Paolo Maldini has been working behind the scenes and gone through the player’s representatives to officially present an offer to President Massimo Cellino.

Milan proposed a loan deal with an option to buy and Cellino rejected the initial offer, as the Rossoneri didn’t match his target to bring in at least €35m.

The report claims Inter had offered this amount in their initial approach, a loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer.

The Nerazzurri had even added further bonuses to the deal and Tonali’s representatives reportedly reached a preliminary agreement with Inter.

But Inter, who participated in the Europa League during August, stopped the negotiations for a while and the inactivity has allegedly annoyed the Brescia patron.

Corriere dello Sport reveals Cellino has been looking around for other possible suitors and Milan have new-found hope of competing with Inter.
