Sampdoria coach Claudio Ranieri feels odd being the first Serie A opponent of new Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo. ‘He only retired yesterday…’
The opening fixture of the 2020-21 season will see Champions of Italy Juve host Samp in Turin on the weekend of September 19-20.
“It’s really strange to be essentially giving a baptism to Pirlo as a coach, it feels like he only retired as a player yesterday…” 68-year-old Ranieri told the club website.
“Pirlo has this huge responsibility on his shoulders, but it’s also a pleasure to see champion players lead other champion players. I am sure he’ll do well.
“It’ll be a difficult first game for us, but we’ll try to do our best and hope to continue where we left off last season. The important thing is to get a strong start, because our fans suffered too much last year.”
