Lionel Messi is in for a legal battle with Barcelona, as his father met with President Josep Maria Bartomeu today and both sides are refusing to negotiate.

The Ballon d’Or winner has been linked with Inter, Juventus, PSG and above all Manchester City.

Messi believes he is now an ex-Barcelona player, as there is a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for free one year before it expires.

The club insists not only is that not true, but also that there is a €700m release clause which is still valid, a position backed by La Liga.

Jorge Messi, Lionel’s father and agent, flew in from Argentina to Barcelona today for talks with President Bartomeu.

However, reports from multiple sources – as collated by Football Espana – insist both sides are adamant they will not budge from their position, nor negotiate any deal.

The situation is increasingly tense and Jorge Messi told reporters it is “difficult” for his son to remain at Camp Nou.
