Gasperini’s men stunned in Europe last season, reaching the quarter-finals of the competition, but the coach fears the team will not have the required time to lay the groundwork ahead of 2020-21.

“What worries me the most is not really the calendar, but rather the lack of time,” Gasperini told the club’s website.

“We are few at training and even if we will start on the 26th, it makes me think.

“The start is really challenging, the first three away matches are against Lazio, Torino and Napoli, with Cagliari as the first at home, three out of four very difficult matches.

“After the fourth day, the Champions League starts as well. It seems far away, but there are only a few weeks left.

“When you enter that period, things must have been done beforehand to be ready and play with great continuity.”
