Leonardo Bonucci felt Bosnia-Herzegovina ‘sat back and waited’ to hit Italy on the counter-attack, but looks at the ‘glass half-full’ after a 1-1 draw.

The opening Nations League match ended 1-1 in Florence with Edin Dzeko’s opener cancelled out by Stefano Sensi.

“It was the same match as we played in Turin, with Bosnia sitting back and waiting, while man-marking us,” Bonucci told RAI Sport.

That game ended 2-1 for the Azzurri with a comeback from Dzeko’s opening goal.

“We created chances, but were a bit too frenetic and should’ve had more patience to pass it around them and go down the wings.

“It was tough after 10 months, but our desire to win it was a good sign. It was only natural we weren’t that sharp, as we’re still in pre-season, but the most important thing is that we kept pushing and wanted to pick up where we left off.

“Let’s look at the glass half-full, namely that we got back on level terms after going behind.”

Roma forward Dzeko has been linked with a move to Juventus, so would Bonucci rather have him as a teammate than an opponent?

“Edin is a world class striker, he has physicality, quality and can read the game really well. He had this chance one-on-one with the goalkeeper and scored, that’s where you see his class.”
