Villar impresses in Roma friendly

Roma won their first pre-season friendly 4-2 against Serie C side Sambenedettese, with Gonzalo Villar providing two assists.

It took all of five minutes to break the deadlock, with Riccardo Calafiori setting up Jordan Veretout, quickly followed by Diego Perotti completing a team move on Gonzalo Villar’s assist.

Sambenedettese got back into it from the penalty spot with ex-Sampdoria striker Maxi Lopez.

Nonetheless, Roma continued to dominate and Villar created another goal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan on 31 minutes, dribbling past a series of players.

Rick Karsdorp has been linked with a move to Atalanta, but did little to impress when clattering into Santiago Chacon to give away another penalty, again converted by Maxi Lopez.

Paul Fonseca completely transformed the line-up for the second half and there were a few scares before Mirko Antonucci turned in an assist laid on a silver platter by a wonderful Riccardo Ciervo run from his own half.

Both sides hit the woodwork late on with Facundo Lescano and Alessio Riccardi.
