Sampdoria were held in a 2-2 friendly draw by Serie C side Alessandria, with Fabio Quagliarella and Federico Bonazzoli on target.
Claudio Ranieri’s men had their first pre-season outing and it was a special event, as there were circa 1,000 fans allowed into the stands using social distancing measures and masks.
Quagliarella opened the scoring by gathering from Valerio Verre and turning on a sixpence to place his finish into the bottom corner.
However, Umberto Eusepi earned and converted a penalty to draw Alessandria level before half-time, brought down by Ronaldo Vieira.
Bonazzoli soared above the crowd to nod in a Quagliarella cross, but Alessandria fought back again for a late Lorenzo Podda equaliser on the counter-attack.
Alex Ferrari made his comeback after a long injury lay-off, having torn his anterior cruciate ligament in December.
