Monza and former Milan President Silvio Berlusconi’s condition is ‘improving’ after he was hospitalised with COVID-19.

The ex-Prime Minister of Italy turns 84 later this month and is therefore in the high-risk category for complications related to the coronavirus.

“Berlusconi is in the fourth day of the diagnosis of bilateral pneumonia related to SARS-COV-2,” Professor Alberto Zangrillo of the San Raffaele hospital in Milan told reporters.

“The general condition appears to be improving and is consistent with tests showing a robust immune response.”

Massimo Clementi, director of the microbiology and virology laboratory at the same hospital, revealed to the Corriere della Sera newspaper that Berlusconi’s COVID test had shown a ‘high viral load.’

“He has not needed to be on oxygen and is currently following anti-viral treatment with Remdesivir, the only anti-viral medication currently authorised for SARS-COV-2.”
