Andrea Petagna enjoys the competition at Napoli and revealed ‘it’s an honour to train’ with the Partenopei stars Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne.
Petagna was signed in January but returned to finish the season on loan at SPAL before joining his new side this summer.
The 25-year-old is one of two new strikers at the San Paolo, as Victor Osimhen has been signed from Olympique Lyonnais and Petagna expects tough competition for a place in the side.
“I have always enjoyed watching Napoli play, Mertens and Insigne are two players I have always liked and for me it’s an honour to be able to train with such players,” Petagna told Sky Sport Italia.
“Osimhen is very good. He has great qualities, he scores, he’s very fast. But we’re a good group, the coach decides how we are going to play.
“It’s nice to have competition, in big teams it’s like that and when there’s competition, everyone improves and gives more on the pitch.”
Petagna believes he can contribute in any formation and vowed he will be ready when Gennaro Gattuso wants him to be.
“I feel good in all formations,” he said. “I can play, three, two or one. In Bergamo I always changed formation. I like to play in any of them, the coach will decide and I will be ready.”
The former SPAL forward revealed he immediately clicked with captain Insigne and hopes they can bring the good relationship to the pitch.
“I immediately got on well with Lorenzo, everyone welcomed me in a good way,” he said. “Insigne is a great player, I hope he will give me many assists.”
