Barcelona freeze out Vidal and Suarez

Arturo Vidal and Luis Suarez are not in the Barcelona squad for the Gamper Trophy, as moves to Inter and potentially Juventus seem imminent.

The players were left off the list for the traditional pre-season clash with Elche.

Vidal’s future is well known, as he has been expected to fly out for his Inter medical for several days now.

He was waiting for Inter defender Diego Godin to complete his move to Cagliari, therefore freeing up funds.

The Chile international is likely to arrive on Monday, signing a two-year contract with option for a third, worth €6m per season net.

As for Suarez, his situation is more in flux, as Juventus seem to have chosen Roma striker Edin Dzeko instead.

That move cannot go through until the Giallorossi have signed replacement Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli.

It’s reported Suarez rejected an offer from MLS club Inter Miami, who just picked up Gonzalo Higuain as a free agent following his Juventus exit.

Uruguay international Suarez passed his Italian language exam this week, the first step towards getting an Italian passport.

Although he might not necessarily come to Serie A, having an EU passport would make transfers within Europe’s big leagues easier.
