After coach Andrea Pirlo confirmed ‘it’s unlikely Luis Suarez will be the Juventus centre-forward,’ it’s reported the club released him from his pledge.

The Uruguay international had seemingly been on the verge of a transfer to Turin, even sitting an Italian language exam in Perugia to begin the process of obtaining an Italian passport.

He continues to discuss terminating his Barcelona contract by mutual consent, or at least leaving for a nominal fee.

However, the situation has changed and Juve made it clear their primary target is Roma forward Edin Dzeko.

“It takes a long time to obtain an Italian passport, so it’s unlikely Suarez can be Juve’s centre-forward,” said Pirlo in today’s press conference.

The Bianconeri have already filled their quota of non-EU players who can join from a club outside Serie A this season, so Suarez could not join unless he gained Italian citizenship.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claim Pirlo’s words came on the same day as Juventus director of sport Fabio Paratici had called Suarez to tell him the deal was off.

The Pistolero had agreed personal terms with the Serie A giants and was rejecting all other proposals to focus on Juve.

Now he has been told to find a different club, as the Old Lady’s focus is entirely on Dzeko.
