Edin Dzeko is on the bench ahead of his imminent Juventus transfer, so Henrikh Mkhitaryan is Roma’s makeshift centre-forward against Hellas Verona with Pedro Rodriguez in support.
It kicks off at the Stadio Bentegodi at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).
The lead-up to this match was all about the transfer market, specifically whether or not Dzeko would play, as he was expected to already undergo a Juventus medical by now.
However, that move is being held up by Arkadiusz Milik’s contract dispute with Napoli, so until he joins Roma, the Giallorossi cannot risk releasing Dzeko.
At the same time, the Bosnian has his mind already on Juve, so this evening he is initially on the bench.
There aren’t many options, therefore Mkhitaryan is the centre-forward with support from new captain Lorenzo Pellegrini and debutant Pedro.
Marash Kumbulla completed his transfer from Verona to Roma this week, but doesn’t debut against his old club, as he’s on the bench with Bryan Cristante as the centre-back.
Nicolò Zaniolo, Diego Perotti and Javier Pastore are out of action.
Verona were one of the surprise outfits of last season and hope to do even better under coach Ivan Juric, even after losing some key players.
Darko Lazovic, Marco Benassi and Filippo Magnani are on the treatment table, with Samuel Di Carmine joined by Tupta and Danzi upfront.
It is a debut for ex-Roma defender Mert Cetin against his old club, with Miguel Veloso as usual pulling the midfield strings.
